During a recent press conference, President William Ruto addressed questions regarding Kenya's upcoming mission in Haiti and the United States' stance on the International Criminal Court (ICC).

President Ruto emphasized Kenya's commitment to global peace and security, highlighting the country's extensive history of participating in peacekeeping efforts in various regions over the past four decades. He expressed Kenya's belief that the responsibility for maintaining peace and security rests on all nations that value freedom, self-determination, democracy, and justice.

Regarding Kenya's mission in Haiti, President Ruto clarified that the deployment would involve supporting the Haitian national police in combating criminal gangs. He assured that Kenyan forces would work in partnership with the Haitian police under the framework established by the United Nations. President Ruto acknowledged the challenges posed by the situation in Haiti but reiterated Kenya's dedication to promoting peace and stability in the region.

President Ruto also addressed the issue of the ICC, stating that Kenya does not recognize the jurisdiction of the court as currently exercised. He emphasized that Kenya does not believe there is an equivalence between the actions of Israel and Hamas, indicating a divergence in views on the ICC's role in international justice.

Overall, President Ruto's statements underscored Kenya's commitment to peacekeeping efforts and its willingness to engage in global security initiatives, such as the mission in Haiti. The president's remarks reflect Kenya's stance on international institutions like the ICC and its prioritization of promoting peace and stability in conflict-affected regions.
