A new monument honoring Fayette Countians who’ve been inducted into the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame was dedicated in Veterans Park Tuesday. Since the hall was founded in 2014, 23 people from Lexington have been inducted. Retired Brigadier General Ben Adams is a member of the hall. He said honorees are nominated for what they do after leaving the military.
“The mission of the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame implies that it seeks veterans who quote, continue to contribute to their community, state and nation in exemplary manner.”
Mayor Linda Gorton said the granite and steel monument showcases Fayette County veterans who’ve done great things for their country and community. Hall member Reverend Doctor Jim Thurman said he noticed Veterans Park Elementary School was nearby.
“I hope that those kids if they ever come to this park, to use this park, that they will see those names, and it will inspire them to do the same.”
Nearly 250 Kentuckians are members of the Veterans Hall of Fame.
