Kentucky Governor Beshear Criticizes Republican VP Nominee JD Vance

Senate candidate JD Vance campaigns in Boardman

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, a potential Democratic vice-presidential candidate, has once again criticized Republican vice-presidential nominee JD Vance for his past comments about Donald Trump and his claims of ties to Kentucky.

In response to Vance's accusation that Vice President Kamala Harris had lied about Joe Biden's fitness for office, Beshear referred to Vance as a 'phony.' He highlighted a private comment made by Vance in 2016 questioning if Trump could be compared to 'America's Hitler.'

Beshear emphasized Vance's lack of conviction and contrasted it with the numerous felony charges Trump faced in the New York hush money trial earlier this year.

Furthermore, Beshear disputed Vance's portrayal of his origins in eastern Kentucky, as depicted in his bestselling memoir 'Hillbilly Elegy.' Beshear expressed frustration at Vance's attempt to profit from the region while simultaneously criticizing its residents.

As Democratic party leaders rally around Harris as a potential replacement for Biden, Beshear endorsed Harris' candidacy on Monday. Beshear hinted at the possibility of stepping down from his current role if he believed he could better serve the people of Kentucky in a different capacity or if there was an opportunity to move beyond political partisanship.
