Kenny Pickett throws interception, scores TD after replacing Mitch Trubisky

Mike Tomlin gave Mitch Trubisky three-plus games to prove he was the Pittsburgh Steelers No. 1 quarterback.

The experiment failed on Sunday in the second half against the New York Jets when the Steelers’ coach inserted first-round pick, Kenny Pickett, into the game.

The Steelers were trailing 10-6 when the move was made.

Trubisky was 7-of-13 for 84 yards with an interception before being replaced. He also was sacked three times for 26 yards in losses.

Trubisky came into the game completing 60.2% of his passes with two TD throws and 1 pick.

The future appears to be now for the former Pitt Panther, Pickett, whom the Steelers used a first-round pick on in the 2022 NFL draft. He was the 20th selection overall.

His first pass had an inauspicious result as it wound up in the hands of Jets DB Jordan Whitehead for an interception.

He had a more pleasant moment on another drive as he used the quarterback sneak to find the end zone to give the Steelers the lead.
