Kenny Miller in Rangers 'trust' claim over Charlie McCann and Leon King as Ibrox hero left bemused by finances talk

Kenny Miller insists he was surprised to see Rangers youngsters Charlie McCann getting a run out for his former club as they took on Dundee United.

The duo both came through the ranks at the Ibrox academy, featuring for Gio van Bronckhorst 's first team in recent months. And the pair were given selected in the gaffer's starting XI as Rangers searched for their first victory in four against managerless United at Ibrox on Saturday. The hosts secured all three points with a 2-1 win, but done so after a number of changes were made by the Dutch boss after a disappointing defeat to Napoli in the Champions League days previous.

Antonio Colak was amongst the returning starters, but most notable was the inclusion of 20-year-old McCann, who made his first start for the Light Blues, with 18-year-old King securing his spot in the first choice XI. The duo impressed during the crucial league win, but former frontman Miller couldn't hide his surprise at GvB's vote of confidence. And Miller was especially surprised given Rangers' summer spending spree this year, with the likes of Ben Davies and Rabbi Matondo failing to make their mark so far.

Speaking on Go Radio's Football Show, the ex-striker insists his former side have stars on their hands in the youth department. He said: "They're good players, there's no doubt about it. Did I expect to see it? No I didn't to be honest.

"Not when you have put that investment in to the backline but I think it shows how much Giovanni trusts them. They're obviously doing their best in training every day, showing up and have earned their slot because he wouldn't have handed it to them if he felt they didn't deserve it.

"McCann I have seen for a few years now and he's a very, very good player. I think you saw it in spells with a few chances, he was one of the players in the second half that had really good opportunities in particular, in the same areas Kent and Arfield pick up but he completely missed it.

"But he's a really good technical player, really intelligent footballer. It was great to see him get a game and even more pleasing is those players came in and won. They got on very well, both of them."

His comments come after Ibrox vice-chairman John Bennet broke his silence on the Rangers takeover rumours. The chief addressed talks with American investor Kyle Fox for the first time, playing down the speculation that the club could be sold. Bennet vowed that he will "never again" let the club have a single owner.

American investor Fox has previously pledged to put £75million into the Govan outfit over a five-year period if she is successful in acquiring a 25 per cent stake in the club. But talks have never got off the ground between the 49-year-old and Ibrox chiefs.
