Gutted Kenny Miller reckons Rangers could be forced to sell Alfredo Morelos for a lowball offer if they can't get the Colombian to commit to a new deal.
Rangers returned for pre-season training this week, and the striker joined up with his teammates as he ramped up his fitness having missed both the Europa League and Scottish Cup final last term with a thigh injury. The Champions League qualifying rounds are just around the corner and Gio van Bronckhorst will be desperate to have his talisman back at full sharpness.
The Colombian is approaching the final year of his Ibrox contract, and with a move for PAOK striker Antonio Colak edging closer Rangers could be forced to cash-in on the 26-year-old before the massive games. Former Rangers hero Miller admits the club could be forced to gamble this term over a potential sale with Sevilla named among the interested parties.
Miller insists sporting director Ross Wilson should be pushing for the striker to sign a new contract so the club can ramp up the price tag. However, if they can't agree new terms he concedes the club could be looking at as little as £6million for their key man.
He told The Go Radio Football Show: "Firstly, I would sign him. That would be (my) number one (target).
"If you sell him afterwards you are in a better position to get more money. With a year left, you are not going to get the market value that a player who has scored the amount of goals, and put in the level of performance that he has, deserves."
When pressed on a valuation, it was put to him that Sevilla had been linked with a £6million move. Miller went on: "I don't think they will be happy with that, but that is probably the maximum they are going to get.
"If he can score the goals that get Rangers to the Champions League, then absolutely keep him, but there is no guarantee of that. It has been one league out of five, and one cup out of 10 for Alfredo. There is no guarantee that he will score the goals to bring that type of success.
"But I firmly believe that Alfredo holds all the cards. I believe he loves it here in Glasgow and scoring in front of that Ibrox crowd.
"I don't think staying for another year would be a big drama for him. He is going to be playing, and anybody who comes in has to take the shirt off his back."
