Kenny Chesney, the renowned country singer and songwriter, has made a comeback with his latest album 'Born,' following his 2020 release 'Here and Now.' While fans eagerly anticipated new music from Chesney, the reception for 'Born' has been somewhat subdued compared to his previous works.
'Born' entered the Billboard 200 chart at No. 20, a position that may be considered respectable for many artists but falls below Chesney's usual standards. This marks the first time in over two decades that one of his regular studio albums has not peaked within the top 20 on the chart.
The last time Chesney experienced a similar chart performance was in 1999 with his album 'Everywhere We Go,' which reached only No. 51 on the Billboard 200. Notably, his holiday album 'All I Want for Christmas Is a Real Good Tan' peaked at No. 42, a common trend for Christmas-themed releases.
Since 'Everywhere We Go,' all of Chesney's studio albums (excluding holiday projects) have achieved top 10 positions on the Billboard 200. Out of the 14 full-length albums released since 1999, eight have claimed the No. 1 spot, with only one, 'Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates' in 2007, reaching No. 3.
'Born' debuted at No. 20 on the Billboard 200 with 26,655 equivalent units, of which 18,489 were pure purchases. The album also secured the top position on the Top Album Sales chart and landed at No. 5 on the Top Country Albums list, a relatively modest ranking for a prominent figure in the country music genre.
