Kenan Thompson to host People’s Choice Awards with Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny nominated

Live from Southern California, it’s the People’s Choice Awards.

“Saturday Night Live” star Kenan Thompson will host the 2022 edition of the music, movie and TV awards show that this year counts Taylor Swift, Harry Styles and Bad Bunny among its nominees, organizers announced Wednesday.

It’s the second consecutive year that Thompson will host the ceremony, which takes place Dec. 6 at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. Thompson is also a finalist in the comedy TV Star category for his work on “SNL.”

“I’m beyond excited to host the People’s Choice Awards again this year and celebrate the incredible talent and fans that this show unites,” Thompson said Wednesday.

“I’m so grateful to be nominated — shoutout to the fans and congrats to all the nominees. Get ready for round two!”

Bad Bunny and Styles will go head to head in a male artist of 2022 category that also includes Kendrick Lamar, Drake, The Weekend, Jack Harlow, Charlie Puth and Luke Combs as nominees.

Swift is nominated for female artist of 2022 along with Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Lizzo, Camila Cabello, Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj.

The movie of the year race is full of blockbusters, including the Tom Cruise-led box office titan “Top Gun: Maverick,” the dinosaur epic “Jurassic World Dominion” and the Marvel films “Thor: Love and Thunder” and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.”

Other nominees in the category include the Brad Pitt-starring thriller “Bullet Train,” the Baz Luhrmann-directed biopic “Elvis,” the horror film “Nope” and DC Comics’ “The Batman.”

The hosting gig will come less than three months after Thompson emceed the Emmy Awards in September.

“Last year, Kenan brought an irreplaceable energy to the ‘People’s Choice Awards.’ His enthusiasm and passion for pop culture and the fans was palpable and translated in the room and on-screen,” Cassandra Tryon, a senior vice president of entertainment live events for NBCUniversal, said Wednesday.

“We can’t wait to welcome Kenan back and see what he has up his sleeve for this year’s show.”

The ceremony will air live on NBC and the E! Network, with the winners selected by fan voting that’s now open on Twitter and on the www.votepca.com website.
