Live from the Emmys, it’s Kenan Thompson.
The “Saturday Night Live” funnyman will host next month’s TV awards show, NBC announced Tuesday.
“Being a part of this incredible evening where we honor the best of the television community is ridiculously exciting, and to do it on NBC — my longtime network family — makes it even more special,” Thompson said in a statement.
“Like all TV fans, I can’t wait to see the stars from my favorite shows.”
Thompson, 44, has been a staple at the Peacock network, currently as the longest-running cast member on “SNL,” where he’ll begin his 20th year this fall. His own comedy, “Kenan,” was canceled in the spring after two seasons.
“Kenan is well-regarded as one of funniest, likeable and accomplished performers of the last two decades and his tenure on ‘Saturday Night Live’ speaks for itself,” Jen Neal, executive VP of Live Events for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, said in a statement.
“We know he’ll bring an excitement and professionalism to the Emmy Awards that a show of this stature deserves.”
Last year, Thompson hosted both the Kids’ Choice Awards and the People’s Choice Awards.
The 74th Emmy Awards will be hosted at the Microsoft Theater on Sept. 12 and air live on NBC and streaming on Peacock.
Thompson will follow Cedric the Entertainer, who hosted the 2021 show, and Jimmy Kimmel, who took the stage a year earlier.
Among the most nominated shows are “Succession,” HBO’s hit drama about a ruthless New York City-based family vying for their father’s love and his massive media company, Apple TV+ soccer comedy “Ted Lasso,” newcomer “Abbott Elementary,” about an inner-city Philadelphia elementary school, and Mike White’s satirical vacation series “White Lotus.”
