Kemp makes it six Aussie golfers at Women's US Open

Sarah Kemp has earned a late call-up to give Australia six starters at this week's US Open, golf's second women's major championship of the year.

Kemp was among four qualifying alternates included in the 156-player field on Tuesday, joining Frenchwoman Agathe Laisne, American Amelia Lewis and Stephanie Meadow of Northern Ireland.

The 38-year-old LPGA Tour veteran will be contesting her seventh US Open after finishing 67th on debut in 2010 before missing the cut in her next five starts.

World No.5 Hannah Green, a two-time winner this year already, and the ninth-ranked 2022 US Open champion Minjee Lee will spearhead the Australian challenge at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania.

Green is competing in her sixth US Open after sharing 13th in 2023 for her best finish yet.

Lee is making her 11th appearance after tying for 13th with Green last year in her title defence from Pine Needles in 2022.

In-form Gabriela Ruffels, with three top-three finishes in her rookie season on the LPGA Tour, Steph Kyriacou and US college start Keeley Marx are also teeing it up.

Ruffels successfully qualified last week, the day after sharing third at the Americas Open behind world No.1 Nelly Korda and runner-up Green.

But the 24-year-old on Tuesday was formally included on her new career-high world ranking of No.40, which gave England's Harriet Lynch a US Open debut as the first qualifying alternate.

Ruffels is having her fourth US Open start after sharing 13th on debut in 2020 and finishing equal 33rd last year.

Kyriacou, 23, is making her debut after earning medallist honours at a qualifier in Florida.

Marx, a rising Iowa State sophomore, is making her major championship debut after also successfully qualifying in Illinois this month.
