Kemar Roofe Rangers injury blow as Hampden hero faces second opinion on shoulder problem

Rangers are hoping to build on their Viaplay Cup semi-final victory on Wednesday when they head to Ayrshire to take on Kilmarnock, who lost the other last four clash to Celtic.

But they have been troubled by the news that Kemar Roofe has not recovered from the shoulder injury he suffered in the extra time victory against Aberdeen when he came off the bench to fire home the winner.

Roofe collapsed to the turf and couldn't continue after landing awkwardly at Hampden. While there is no major damage Rangers need the striker to get more treatment and another scan and he won't be ready in time for Saturday's Scottish Cup trip to St Johnstone. It's another kick to the striker who missed nearly 10 months with calf and knee problems.

Boss Michael Beale said: "Kemar Roofe won't be available for this weekend, he will get a scan and a second opinion. It's not a break, but we need to wait and see the extent of the injury. It's a huge disappointment for Kemar and the fans. He is a huge character at this club and I feel for him."

The Rangers boss has also revealed that Antonio Colak won't be risked on Killie's synthetic surface but American midfielder James Sands is back in.

He added: "James Sands will come back into the squad for tomorrow. Colak will hopefully be returning for the weekend, we don't want to push his return on the artificial pitch."

The Ibrox men need the win at Rugby Park so that they don't lose any more ground on Celtic who are at home to St Mirren.
