Rangers are sweating the fitness of Kemar Roofe after the striker reportedly pulled out of their pre-season trip to Portugal due to injury.
Roofe missed a chunk of action towards the end of last season after sustaining a knock and that led to Joe Aribo being used as an auxiliary striker, with Alfredo Morelos also sidelined. But he was fit enough to play a cameo role off the bench in the Europa League Final and had been expected to travel to Portugal ahead of friendlies with Sunderland and Blackpool.
However the Scottish Sun are reporting Gio van Bronckhorst has been dealt a major blow, with Roofe hobbling off during an Auchenhowie training session before the squad flew out to the Algarve. He's now expected to stay in Glasgow while the rest of the team train abroad, and it's even claimed he could miss the Premiership opener with Livingston in three weeks' time.
It might mean a major role for new striker Antonio Colak in the early stages of the season as Rangers confirmed his arrival on Thursday. The 28-year-old arrives from PAOK on an initial three-year deal, with Gers paying just £1.8m for his services.
Meanwhile Van Bronckhorst is lining up a move to land free agent Tom Lawrence, who is viewed as a replacement for the departing Aribo. Former Manchester United academy graduate Lawrence was loosely linked earlier in the window, but he is now a firm target with Rangers at the head of the queue.
