Much has been said about Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, his leadership and his body language. It is one area in which the Cardinals would like to see him improve as a franchise quarterback.
Starting right tackle Kelvin Beachum appeared on the Jim Rome Show and was asked about Murray’s leadership, and he both indicated Murray is both doing what he should and still can improve.
Does he need to be better?
“I could say that about every player in the locker room,” Beachum told Rome.
“As it pertains to a franchise-leading quarterback, you want to see the maturation continue to happen and he’s matured since I’ve been here, and I’ve only been here since 2020,” he continued. “He’s matured since I’ve been here and I think he’s going to continent take the steps that are necessary for him to be the franchise-leading quarterback that the Cardinals want to have and the Cardinals want to pay. I think he knows that. I think the Cardinals realize that, but I can say that about anybody across the roster as we all need to improve, improve as players, improve as leaders and be able to hold each other accountable over the long term.
“He’s doing everything that he can to put himself in the best position to lead. And everybody leads in a different way. He’s not a rah-rah guy. I’m not a rah-rah guy. You go out there and perform. And that’s the way he wants to lead and I think that’s the way he’s going to lead.”
This is something we continue to hear from teammates. Teammates always praise Murray. What is good from Beachum is that he recognizes what Murray has done and also that he, as well as everyone in the locker room, can still improve.
It is also important to note that Beachum recognizes that Murray might never be the Philip Rivers-type rah-rah leader. He will lead with his example, his work ethic and his performance on the field.
It is who he has always been. For the Cardinals to expect him to be more than that is their mistake.
