Kelsea Ballerini cries on-stage before emotional divorce song and says 'it doesn't hurt'

Kelsea Ballerini broke down while singing one of her emotional hits thought to be about her divorce from Morgan Evans, although she claims "it doesn't hurt anymore".

The 29-year-old Hole In The Bottle singer split from fellow country star Morgan Evans, 38, last summer after five years together. She then went on to release an EP on Valentine's Day that told her side of the story.

Rolling Up The Welcome Mat is her EP which is said to be about her divorce from Morgan, with the record containing hits like Penthouse, Just Married, Blindsided and Mountain With A View. In all of the songs Kelsea sings candidly about her marriage and subsequent divorce.

Taking to Twitter, fan page KelseaCentral shared a video from a recent gig Kelsea did, with them penning: "Kelsea got emotional during Penthouse last night and she explained why… to put it simply, 'it doesn’t hurt anymore'." In the video, the country star could be seen tearing up and getting visibly choked up by the way in which the audience screamed the lyrics back to her.

Kelsea then spoke to the crowd after gaining composure and admitted that when she put the EP out in February she didn't have any intention of performing the songs live. She said: "I really didn't want to, because it hurt," but then added: "And it doesn't anymore."

She then went on to say how she was crying because she was "so thankful" that the fans made her start singing the songs. Kelsea then reflected on how since the first time she played songs from her EP in Manchester, England, back in February it felt different to how it does now.

Fans were quick to comment on the emotional video, with one writing: "This was such a sweet moment omg." While another added: "It was such a sweet moment and I almost cried when she talked about her journey with the RUTWM EP. She healed."

In the hit track Penthouse, Kelsea croons: "We played the part five nights, but we were never there on the weekends, baby / We got along real nice, but when I left town, did you hate me? / One day, the curtain started coming down / I changed the second we were moving out / I guess wrong can look alright / When you're playing home in a penthouse, baby," with it rumoured to be about her ex-husband.

This comes after Kelsea showed off a new inking, which is thought by fans to relate to her EP. Last week after Kelsea shared a slew of snaps from her HEARTFIRST Tour, fans were quick to spot her tattoo and unpick its meaning. "Does anyone notice her new tattoo on her arm? It's so beautiful," penned one in the comments section.

"Omggg is it mountains? From MVAV?" asked another underneath Kelsea's post.

Soon after a fan account then shared a snap of Kelsea on Twitter, with her new line tattoo of a mountain scene in full view. The account penned: "SPOTTED [side eye emoji] Kelsea got a new tat and it’s giving Mountain With A View vibes."

This comes as Kelsea's fans continue to point out how she's "healing" and "growing" since her divorce, which comes as she remains smitten with boyfriend Chase Stokes. The country star and Netflix hunk first sparked romance rumours when the Outer Banks star posted a snap of the pair cuddled up together at a basketball game in January.

The pair then kept things pretty low-key but seemingly "hard launched" in April - as per Kelsea's Instagram story - when they walked their first red carpet as a couple at the CMT Awards.
