Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos's dining room shelves combine unexpected elements for the ultimate storage solution – it's multi-functional and replicable

Books and wine, what could be better? In Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos's dining room, the two pleasures come together on a set of green shelves behind their table.

We spotted the dining room storage in the background of an Instagram photo posted by Kelly. It reveals how the couple uses shelves to store both their glassware and their books on separate levels of the same piece of furniture. A row of books lines the top level, looking especially neat. Below, wine glasses hang upside down from a rack, while other glasses sit on the smaller shelves.

Though we wouldn't typically think to pair the two items, Ripa and Counselos's design is a masterclass in decorating shelves. Placing these items out together taps into the 'curated clutter' trend, which celebrates leaving functional items on display, rather than hiding them away in smooth cabinets.

Etsy's Trend Expert, Dayna Isom Johnson explains: 'Curating your clutter is the ultimate organizing solution for those who are torn between what to keep and what to throw away this de-cluttering season - who says you should throw anything away at all? Items don’t always need to be tidied away in a cupboard that’s already bursting at the seams - try thoughtfully displaying your belongings instead.'

Though formally 'functional,' displaying both of these items adds personality to Kelly and Mark's home. Storing glassware in this manner demonstrates how the couple loves to host and entertain, while the books show their interest in reading. It's a lived-in and cozy way to make the home feel ultra-loved.

Luckily, this method of adding personality to a home with shelf styling is easy to recreate in any home, in any room, in different ways. Dayna recommends: 'Stack up your prettiest serving bowls on your kitchen counter and use them as a fruit bowl, or even use an aesthetic tray as a stage to place some of your favourite skincare products in your bedroom. I particularly love this trend as it allows you to create an environment that feels lived-in, welcoming, and uniquely yours, breaking away from the uniformity of minimalism and celebrating individuality.'

This design encourages us to think outside of the box in terms of what's possible with shelves. Instead of limiting yourself to one thing, think expansively.
