Kelly Brook was deeply 'unhappy' in her twenties but can 'finally breathe' after turning 40

Kelly Brook has opened up on the unhappiness that surrounded her 20s, but revealed she feels like she can finally "breathe" after turning 40.

The model, now 43, is best known for her days in lads mags and as a Page Three girl. She admits in her younger years she became "very self-obsessed" but insists she no longer has the anxiety she once did.

Speaking to Vicky Pattison, the presenter revealed she was extremely career driven at one stage, at the detriment to her personal health.

She told the former Geordie Shore star on her The Secret To podcast: "You’ve got to look at your life in a holistic way and I think there was a long time when I was very career driven, very focused on myself and very self-obsessed.

"Not to say that that wasn’t a good thing but it did make other parts of my life suffer and ultimately, it made me unhappy."

She continued: "'I think that plays a huge part in your health and your lifestyle and how you feel about yourself. I look back on pictures of when I was like younger and I’m like, 'She was really unhappy'."

And she revealed she no longer feels as though she has to be on a continuous diet and doesn't have to "prove" herself to anybody anymore.

Kelly went on to say she is "so grateful" her anxiety has gone, adding: "You get into your 40s your like, 'Ugh I can breathe. I don’t feel need to prove myself or people please anymore'.

"Between 40 and 50, this is an amazing time where you can just own our body, love your body, feel good in your body."

She said it's a great feeling to know she doesn't have to be a size 0 to feel fit and healthy and enjoys knowing she's still desirable to her husband without needing to constantly diet.

Kelly recently shared throwback snaps from her time as host of Celebrity Love Island alongside Patrick Kielty. It comes as she put her name in the hat to present ITV's new dating series The Romance Retreat.

The show will see a group of singletons look for love in a similar concept to Love Island. However, contestants on the new programme will be single parents instead of the usual younger islanders.
