Kellie Harrington lends her support to the Dublin Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals latest fundraising drive

Champion boxer Kellie Harrington has lent her support to the Dublin Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals to help their latest major fundraising drive.

The animal welfare charity will hold a Pups in the Park day out on September 10 and 11 at Dublin’s Marlay Park.

Olympic champion Kellie is encouraging her followers to support the doggy day out.

She said: “Animal welfare is something that I am very passionate about and it really is an honour to support today’s charity announcement.

“I would ask fellow dog lovers to get behind this great event to help raise much needed funds for the DSPCA.

"Pups in the Park is the perfect opportunity to get out and make some special memories with precious four-legged family members.”

The festival will also feature an adoption parade which gives potential new dog owners the opportunity to meet some of the dogs in the charity’s care that are looking for their forever homes.

Suzanne McGovern of the DSPCA said: “We are delighted to be returning as the official charity partner of Pups in the Park. The festival has an exciting line-up of events which will not only promote the work of the charity but also help to raise vital funds as part of a great day out.”

The festival, which is expecting 10,000 visitors across the weekend, will also host The Regatta Great Dog Walk, the Crave Obedience Ring and the Chin-Wag Talk Stage, where the dogs as well as the humans can learn some new tips and tricks.

The Leader Main Arena, hosted by singer Jake Carter, is back with an exciting line up of sessions including the Breed Meet Ups, a doggy-designated event for a host of breeds including collies, dachshunds, golden retrievers, huskies and more to play together while the humans can meet fellow dog owners.

Experts including well-known TV veterinary expert, Peter Wedderburn, Rob Walshe “The Irish Dogfather”, Bobby Ortiz “Dogtor Bob”, and many more will also be on hand to share their expert advice in canine training and care.

Canine owners can also enjoy a day out filled with food and drink including Griolladh, All Bar Chicken, The Crepe Box and El Milagro.

There will also be more than 50 exhibitors in the retail village, including Mozy & Co and Pretty Paws, ready to kit the canines out in some super stylish attire for their big day out.
