Kejriwal passing orders in custody: HC asks ED to submit its note to special judge

Delhi High Court

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday asked the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to submit its note to the special judge on the issue of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal passing orders while in custody in the excise policy-linked money laundering case.

A bench of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet PS Arora said the special judge, dealing with the money laundering case in which Kejriwal has been arrested, is directed to pass an order, if required, in accordance with the law.

The Court told the petitioner that if there was a violation, the same could be brought to the notice of the ED, which would in turn bring it to notice of the trial judge.

It then suggested asking ED to treat the petition as a representation before eventually issuing the direction to file a status report. Accordingly, the plea was disposed of.

The PIL was filed by a man named Surjit Singh Yadav, who claims to be a farmer and activist.

Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in connection with the alleged Delhi Excise Policy case.
