Ex-Coronation Street star Keith Duffy has revealed his son is set to follow in his footsteps into the world of acting – but predicts the young lad will become a far bigger star than he ever was.
The 47-year-old Irish star found global fame as a member of Boyzone in the 1990s before segwaying into the world of acting and landing a high-profile role on Corrie as hospitality worker Ciaran McCarthy from 2002 until 2011.
As well as being a singer and actor, Keith is a father of two – and has a 26-year-old son named Jordan, shortened to Jay, and a 22-year-old daughter named Mia.
Keith is currently dipping his toe back into the world of music and has teamed up with ex-Westlife star Brian McFadden, 41, to perform as their supergroup Boyzlife and he has been promoting their new album and upcoming tour.
Chatting to OK! as part of his promo work, Keith opened up about his children’s futures and explained that his son is set to become a huge star.
He teased that his son has been perfecting his acting skills in recent years and that the hard work is about to pay off.
Keith said: “Jay’s had years of anxiety over whether or not he made the right choice. He’s done lots of stuff but you’re constantly waiting on that big one to arrive. Now he’s landed it. A really big one.”
He went on to say he couldn’t share any details of what show or project Jay had landed work in, but then teased: “I can’t! It’s the biggest streaming show in the world, so you can probably guess from that.”
He also hinted that he thinks Jay will become a Hollywood star, adding: “Next year I think he’ll blow up in America.”
While Keith refused to reveal what show his son is set to appear in, it’s no secret that one of the biggest shows available via streaming services is the Netflix series Bridgerton.
Jay’s previous acting credits include Hollyoaks where he played a character named Declan Brady, popular Channel 4 comedy Derry Girls where he played a character named Harry, and hit sword swinging drama Vikings where he played a character named Ari.
During the joint interview, Brian hinted that the daughters he shares with ex-wife Kerry Katona, 43, may also end up working in showbusiness.
The dad-of-three – who welcomed a daughter named Ruby last May with fiancée Danielle Parkinson, 39 – is proud father to daughters Molly, 20, and Lily-Sue, 19.
He said: “Molly is doing it and I know Lilly flirted with it. It’s whatever they want to do or are passionate about.”
While Keith chimed in to claim Molly could become a successful actress, gushing: “Molly is very talented. As an actor, her comedy timing and her accents – she’s brilliant.”
