Keira Knightley’s fans have been left speechless after discovering her age when she appeared in the first Pirates Of The Caribbean film.
The actor, 39, portrayed Elizabeth Swann in Pirates Of The Caribbean: Curse Of The Black Pearl in 2003 opposite Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow and Orlando Bloom as Elizabeth’s love interest, Will Turner.
The Atonement star was just 17 when she took on the role and has appeared as the character in three of the franchise’s five films.
Bewildered fans on social media are just learning how old Knightley really was when she shot the first Pirates film.
"Keira Knightley being like 17 when she filmed Pirates Of The Caribbean shakes me to my core,” one wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
"She looked 25 at 17 and stayed looking 25 to this very day,” another said.
"This really just impresses upon me how f**king talented she is as an actress. Like god damn girl you haven’t even been alive long enough to have this type of range,” a third posted.
“To this day I still REFUSE to believe that Keira Knightley was only 17 when she filmed the first Pirates Of The Caribbean movie..." another user added.
Knightley began acting aged eight in the TV show, Screen One, before becoming Natalie Portman’s double in 1999’s Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.
She was 16 when she landed her breakout role as tomboy footballer, Jules Paxton, in 2002’s Bend It Like Beckham and 18 when she starred in the 2003 Christmas classic, Love Actually.
The first Pirates film was a huge success at the box office, raking in a whopping $654 million worldwide.
Knightley recently said she feels “confused” about starring in the action-comedy franchise as she was “taken down so publicly” for the role.
“It’s a funny thing when you have something that was making and breaking you at the same time,” she told The Times.
"I was seen as s*** because of them, and yet because they did so well I was given the opportunity to do the films that I ended up getting Oscar nominations for [Pride & Prejudice and The Imitation Game]," she said.
"They were the most successful films I'll ever be a part of and they were the reason that I was taken down publicly. So, they're in a very confused place in my head."
