KEIR Starmer is set to tell Labour conference there is “light at the end of the tunnel” but that people must first join a “shared struggle” through short-term pressures.
In his first conference speech as Prime Minister, Starmer will say he wants to “build a new Britain” with faster economic growth and shorter hospital waiting lists.
It comes the day after a pro-Palestine protester was kicked out of the conference for interrupting Chancellor Rachel Reeves’s speech.
Here’s how you can watch Starmer’s address today.
What time will Keir Starmer be speaking?
Keir Starmer is due to give his speech to conference around 2pm.
He will attempt to set out his positive vision of “national renewal” but the speech comes against a backdrop of anger within the Labour movement about the decision to cut the universal Winter Fuel Payment.
How can I watch Starmer’s speech?
The Labour Party’s YouTube channel is livestreaming the conference, which offers one way to watch the speech when it comes.
Major broadcasters, such as the BBC and Sky News, may also be broadcasting the speech.
What has been said ahead of the speech?
The SNP have already challenged Starmer to U-turn on his Winter Fuel Payment cuts decision and to “end the Labour Party’s damaging obsession with austerity”.
The party’s Westminster leader Stephen Flynn (above) said: “After months of misery and scandal, Sir Keir Starmer must use his speech today to press the reset button by U-turning on his Winter Fuel Payment cuts and ending the Labour Party’s damaging obsession with austerity.
“There’s a growing feeling among voters that the Labour government is just as bad as the Tories – lining their pockets with £800,000 of freebies, while they balance the books on the backs of the poor. A life of luxury for them; painful austerity cuts for the rest of us."
