KEIR Starmer may have just thrown the next election – at least in Scotland – with an absolute howler of a tweet about our national drink.
The Labour leader took the obligatory UK politician trip to a whisky distillery for a photo-op on Thursday.
But he committed the cardinal sin of describing our national drink as “Scotch”, something no Scot would ever use to describe the spirit.
In a tweet, Starmer said: “Labour will put growth at the heart of our government and back Scotch producers to the hilt.”
One Twitter/X user responded: “Keith using ‘Scotch’ has just cost him the next election in Scotland”.
Another added: “The fuck’s Scotch?”
While the gaffe will hardly endear him to Scottish voters, he has a bigger headache on his hands after a massive rebellion from his MPs after they defied his authority to back the SNP’s ceasefire calls in a crunch vote on Wednesday night.
