Keir Starmer rescued by police after being mobbed by anti-vaxxers outside Parliament

Keir Starmer had to be rescued by police after being mobbed by anti-vaxxers protesting outside parliament.

The Labour leader was leaving Westminster with Shadow Justice Secretary David Lammy when he became surrounded by protestors hurling abuse at him, according to the Mirror.

The Mirror said protestors had a noose and shouted false claims about the MP failing to prosecute Jimmy Savile when he was head of the Crown Prosecution Service.

There were screams of "traitor" before officers stepped in, escorting him to the safety of a police car.

The Met Police said a man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of assault after a traffic cone was thrown at a police officer.

A spokesman said: "Shortly after 5.10pm on Monday, 7 February, a man who had been surrounded by a group of protesters near to New Scotland Yard, was taken away from the scene by a police car.

"A man and a woman were arrested at the scene for assault of an emergency worker after a traffic cone was thrown at a police officer.

"They have been taken into custody."

It comes days after Prime Minister Boris Johnson falsely claimed in the House of Commons that Sir Keir failed to prosecute Savile.

He later backtracked on the comments but stopped short of apologising, with one of his most loyal aides, No 10’s head of policy Munira Mirza, quitting over the “scurrilous accusation”.

Sir Keir said it was “up to the Prime Minister” whether he apologised for looking to personally link him to the failure to prosecute Savile.

Asked by the PA news agency whether he would like to see the changes result in a personal apology, he said: “I’m concerned about standards in politics and acting with integrity.

“So this is not about me – it’s about how we conduct ourselves. It’s up to the Prime Minister how he conducts himself.

“But I don’t want to see the lowering of standards, the slurring of anyone in politics.

“It’s not about me, it’s about the sort of politics that I stand for.”
