Keeneland hosting the annual fall meet and then the World Championship Breeders' Cup

There’s a little extra excitement surrounding the start of Keeneland’s fall racing meet Friday. The 17 days of racing at the historic track will be followed by the world championships in Thoroughbred racing, the Breeders’ Cup. It will be held on November fourth and fifth. Keeneland Chief Marketing Officer Christa Marrillia said this opening weekend finds nine wins and you’re in the competition. Winners get spots in corresponding races at the Breeders’ Cup.

“We have a number of horses that are already on property now that are training to either race here during the fall meet or they’re preparing for the World Championships,” said Marrillia.

Marrillia said the Hill, the popular tail-gating site on the Keeneland property, is open Friday and Saturday. She said the Sunrise Trackside program, geared toward families, provides an opportunity to see workouts and participate in children's activities.

During employee orientation this week, Keeneland workers were asked what was one of the most often heard questions from patrons.

“And one of them was, ‘Where’s the bread pudding?’ And so, we’re making that easier for fans. On the first floor here, we’re going to have a bread pudding cart. That’s all it’s serving is our world-famous bread pudding and we’re excited to be able to debut the bread pudding cart,” said Marrillia.

Marrillia noted the cart is expected to be positioned near the winners’ circle. She added visitors will notice facility enhancements already in place for the Breeders’ Cup. Those include the paddock chalet as well as loge boxes. Once again, tickets must be purchased in advance and daily attendance will be capped at 20,000.
