A kebab shop in Lancashire has been given a zero star food hygiene rating following an inspection.
Pizza Guys on Whalley New Road, Blackburn, is one of three takeaways in the area to have a score of zero after a visit from the Food Standards Agency, LancsLive reports. The rating was handed to the kebab shop on February 8.

During this inspection, there were two areas rated as 'major improvement necessary'. A third was given a slightly lesser rating of 'improvement necessary'. Food Standards Agency inspectors who carried out the checks found the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building were areas in need of major improvement. The health watchdog states this includes having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control.
This is to enable good food hygiene. However the takeaway failed to show these measures were adequately taken care of. Inspectors also found the management of food safety to be severely lacking. This too was rated as needing major improvements.
The management of food includes system or checks to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat. There needs to be evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.
The third area of weakness found at the Blackburn kebab shop was the hygienic food handling. Inspectors say the hygienic handling of food includes preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage.
Pizza Guys was told improvement was necessary in this department too. LancsLive has contacted the takeaway for further comment but did not respond prior to deadline.
