Keanu Baccus pens St Mirren pre contract as Stephen Robinson seals Western Sydney Wanderers coup

St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson has landed Western Sydney Wanderers star Keanu Baccus after an ambitious bid to snap up the playmaker.

Robinson and his contacts down under have helped him to land the Australia under-23 cap on a pre-contract deal.

The midfielder will move from Western Sydney to Paisley on a two-year-contract this summer despite interest from several clubs.

The 23-year-old, who is South African-born, had offers from Scottish and English sides but was won over by the ambitious plans that Robinson and the Buddies' board have put in place.

Baccus has played under Kenny Miller and alongside Scott McDonald during his time in Oz.

He becomes Robinson’s second pre-contract capture with Mark O’Hara already agreeing to join from Scottish Premiership rivals Motherwell.

Robinson is actively working on other options as he prepares to put his own stamp on the St Mirren team, with moves for a goalkeeper and striker also well down the line.

The St Mirren board have really backed Robinson going into his first transfer window and have also started to put things in place off the park.

Robinson has now brought in his long-term head of recruitment Martin Foyle from Morecambe and he is now actively working on a number of other live summer targets.

He previously worked with Robinson at Motherwell as well.

The club will also bring in Keith Lasley as chief operating officer next month to help with the football administration side.

St Mirren are also in the process of refurbishing the training ground and that should be completed over the coming weeks.
