Keanu Baccus 'considered' by Rangers as St Mirren star scouted ahead of January transfer window

Keanu Baccus is being considered by Rangers as a possible January target, according to a report.

The St Mirren World Cup star is being tracked by the Light Blues with Ibrox scouts believed to be firming up their options for new boss Michael Beale with the transfer window opening in the next couple of days.

The Aussie earned rave reviews for his performances in Qatar with the Socceroos and that has alerted clubs south of the border. However, the Scottish Sun report that a move closer to home could happen with Rangers contemplating swooping in for the Buddies ace. He's under contract in Paisley until 2024 and would command a decent fee for the Buddies to consider selling. Speaking earlier this month, Baccus insisted his full focus was on St Mirren. He dreams of playing at the highest level but his aim in the immediate term is to keep doing well for his current club who he expressed his 'love' for.

He said: “I just want to keep hitting the ground running. I’ll keep doing my best for St Mirren.

“Of course as any player does, you have dreams of playing at the highest level to help your family and sort them out too.

“You think about it, but it just fuels you to do well for your club. That’s what I’ve learned, you can’t think too far ahead because it can affect you on the field. You take it game by game and enjoy every game.

“I’ve enjoyed my time here a lot. I love everybody here at the club and I’ve just got to keep doing well here.”

Baccus has featured 17 times in all competitions for St Mirren this season to date and scored two goals.

The Buddies sit fifth in the Premiership table - just three points behind Hearts in third place with a game in hand over the capital club.
