Keanu Baccus believes St Mirren fans helped push side to third straight win and reiterates World Cup dream

Keanu Baccus praised his fellow Aussie Ryan Strain for laying his St Mirren goal on a plate as the Paisley side beat Hibs 1-0.

Baccus converted his cross for the only goal of the game as Lee Johnson’s men offered next to nothing on the day.

And the only disappointment for the impressive man in the middle of the park was that he didn’t add to his tally when he could have had a hat-trick.

Baccus told Renfrewshire Live Sport: “Ryan did amazingly on the right against Hibs.

“I was just in the right position to put it away.

“Ryan and I were on top different teams back in Australia but I played in the Under-23s with him.

“ I’m really happy for him as he’s been doing great for St Mirren.

“Hopefully we can both push on and you never know what might happen.

“Things can change quickly in football and there could be something around the corner for us national team-wise – that’s what we’re aspiring to.

“The World Cup is in my thoughts.

“You have to think positively as a footballer and that anything is possible.

“It could be your turn. There have been times when it wasn’t my turn but hopefully with a good run here I can get there.”

Baccus also praised the St Mirren faithful for their backing throughout the 90 minutes.

The fans are in dreamland with three consecutive wins and clean sheets.

And the midfielder says he can’t get enough of playing off them.

He added: “I have to say Hibs was a tough game and credit to the defenders, they did amazing as did Trevor in goals.

“The fans held their own and won us that game in the end.

"They’re probably thinking I should have scored more at the other end to ease the pressure!

“They were our 12th man out there.

“I love playing at home because of the supporters. It’s so loud and exciting.

“To get a win, I’m sure the fans would have been happy with that. They couldn’t have asked for much more from us.”
