Keane Barry crashes to first round loss against Grant Sampson at PDC World Darts Championship

It was a win on debut for South Africa's Grant Sampson as he stunned Ireland's Keane Barry in a first round upset at the Ally Pally.

In a match where both players struggled to hit their doubles, the fancied Barry looked off colour as his opponent thrived while making his TV debut.

The South African didn't necessarily outplay his opponent - in truth it was a poor matchup between the pair - but he pounced when Barry struggled to connect with his own efforts.

Hitting four 180s and with an average of 77.29 throughout, those numbers were similar to Keane's but admittedly those were poor too.

With 56 Keane's highest checkout, he never looked convincing and that paved the way for the South African to make hay.

3-1 on sets, and the victorious South African was buzzing afterwards.

He said: "It was amazing. Crowd was awesome, wow!

"Back home we only play in front of 40, 50 people.

"Playing in front of a crowd like that was beautiful. I enjoyed every minute of it.

"All my dreams came through in that moment.

"Wow. I'm really really really proud of it. It is the biggest night of my life.

"I wont be able to sleep tonight!"
