Keane Barry and Willie O'Connor beaten in UK Open semi-finals after impressive run

Keane Barry and Willie O'Connor bowed out of the Cazoo UK Open in last night's semi-final after impressive runs to the last four.

The Irish pair scored big quarter-final wins on Sunday afternoon but came up just short against strong opposition in the evening session's semi-finals.

19-year-old prospect Barry excited fans in particular, with the 66th-ranked teenager blew defending champion and huge name James Wade away to reach the last four.

He averaged over 100 throughout to ease to a 10-4 victory, sealing the win with a stunning 146 checkout to underline the victory.

He lead semi-final opponent Michael Smith 6-2 in the early stages last night, but fell to an 11-6 defeat to the Englishman.

Meanwhile, O'Connor's run saw him dismiss world champion Peter Wright in the last-16 before edging out 18-year-old starlet Sebastian Bialecki to reach the semi-finals.

O'Connor went on to a fierce battle against eventual champion Danny Nopert, leading 8-6 mid-way through before eventually losing out 11-9.

Noppert went on to win the tournament after beating Smith 11-10 in a dramatic finale last night.

Both Keane and O'Connor will take home £20,000 each for their performances in the prestigious tournament.
