Kaye Adams said she looked like a 'rabbit in headlights' during her Strictly Come Dancing performance as she's 'not a dancer'

Kaye Adams has said that she 'blanked' and looked like a rabbit in headlights during her Strictly Come Dancing performance which resulted in her being the first celebrity to leave the competition after a tense dance off with Matt Goss.

The Scots Loose Women host opened up about her experience when she appeared on spin off show Strictly: It Takes Two this evening with Rylan and her dance partner Kai Widdrington. On Sunday evening, Kaye and Matt faced each other in the dreaded dance-off, with Kaye and Kai performing their Charleston, whilst Matt and his dance partner Nadiya Bychkova performed their Samba in a bid to impress the judges and remain in the competition.

And after Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse voted for Kaye to go home, it was Anton Du Beke's vote that sealed her fate, although head judge Shirley Ballas said she would have chosen to save Kaye and send Matt home.

Kaye has since said she's gutted to go out first but has had a wonderful experience nonetheless. On the spin off show It Takes Two, presenter Rylan said: "I am gutted for you, because I know how much you loved your Strictly journey. But let's talk about Saturday, I thought the performance was great!"

Kaye said: "Yeah well tell Craig! I'm glad you said that I did it as well as I could that is all I can really say. As I said in the beginning I'm not a dancer, which is perfectly obvious but I gave it everything that I could and to be honest when Craig said it was 'under danced and underperformed darling' which is fair enough but to be honest, I am thinking 'I actually don't know how to perform', I just don't have that.

She added (pointing to Kai): "This man should be a motivational coach, I've learned so much from Kai genuinely, beyond dancing. His attitude to competing, coaching me and getting me ready for the dance off which I found really difficult and I've seen people say 'Oh she was like a rabbit in the headlights' and yeah I was, I blanked. I was tired and my adrenaline goes way up."

She then turned to Kai and said: "You were just trying your very best to try and quickly coach me to give it a bit more and give it my best." Rylan then went on to ask about Kaye's nerves before her performance on the first show, but said she was like a new woman.

Kai agreed: "It was, the first week you were a bundle of nerves, but this was the perfect dance to just come out and be like, here we are, look at me, let's have some fun! Yes it wasn't the best Charleston the world has ever seen but for you, it was a massive achievement... it was the best we could have done with four days preparation."

Speaking about the scores, Kaye and Kai said they weren't too disappointed, despite receiving a four from Craig Revel Horwood, but a six from the other three judges. Kai said it was always going to be tough to get through as the competition is extremely fierce this year.

He said: "Do you know what it's not a bad score. We took them and we knew it was going to be tough as everyone is upping their game after week one and you know the level of standard this year is so good, there's seven or eight there that could be in the final easily.

"We knew it was going to be a tough night and to get through would be difficult. Sixes aren't bad, I still think if Craig had given us a bit of a better score we might have still had a chance."

Kaye added: "I thought the judges comments were fair, I really didn't have a problem with them at all, you know there's so many wonderful dancers in there, you know Molly's dance at the end was fabulous, it was a joy to watch. Tyler, Richie and Helen as well, they were great and I put my hands up and say well done.

Kaye then got a bit teary as she watched back her best bits and Kai put his arm around her to comfort her. She said: "It has been fantastic, I'm going to cry!

"It's been a privilege to meet Kai! I'm going to miss the people in a nutshell! I'll miss going everywhere on Kai's arm!"

After Kaye's emotional exit on Sunday, she took to social media to pay tribute to her professional partner Kai. She wrote on Twitter: "Well, it was a much shorter journey than I'd hoped for but a journey all the same! I'll be talking more about it all on @bbcstrictly It Takes Two tomorrow and on the podcast when I've had more time to process it all, but right now I want to say a massive thank you to @Kaiwidd.

"You were an absolute gent the whole way through and made me realise that my two left feet could be turned into dancing ones. I'm just sorry we didn't get to dance together longer. And to my Strictly family. I'm going to miss you all! Keep Dancing!!"

Matt Goss replied to Kaye on Twitter, writing: "It was so lovely getting to know you better @kayeadams. You are a class act and I will really miss you! #Strictly," and Kaye responded: "And you Matt. I will be cheering you on x"

The remaining fourteen couples will take to the dance floor again this weekend for Movie Week Special when Strictly returns on Saturday 8 October at 6:30pm.
