Loose Women star Kaye Adams was forced to call in sick live on BBC Radio on Wednesday morning just half an hour before she was due to broadcast her own phone-in as she could barely speak.
The BBC Radio morning host, 60, appeared on Good Morning Scotland to promote her upcoming breakfast show when she admitted she was "struggling a little bit," as she lost her voice which had gone croaky which meant she couldn't continue.
"I might not even make the phone-in at this rate," Kaye told fellow show hosts Gary Robertson and Laura Maxwell as she was replaced last minute by Lucy Whyte and Laura McGhie.
Kaye, who has previously appeared on Strictly Come Dancing, had her colleagues worried for her well-being when she went live at 8.30am this morning as they expressed their concerns about her voice.
The pair even thought she was joking when they heard her broken and sore-sounding throat when she was forced to confirm it wasn't an act.
She said: "I opened my mouth and I had no idea what would come out, which is what I usually do, to be honest,"
Despite Kaye's best attempts to continue for part of the show, which was due to kick off at 9am, it was clear she couldn't continue.
"Maybe today I might just do the phone-in and then we might get emergency services in, I think, because it's failing me," she said.
"I thought it was better than it was but when I got here this morning I felt..."
"It's going to be annoying, I'm sorry," she added.
Later on in the show Laura told listeners that Adams had gone home "because she was squeaking" whilst colleague Lucy added: "She couldn't speak, the poor soul. I think she was putting on a brave face and thinking she was going to do it today."
