A kayaker who got into difficulty in the water off Dalkey island at the weekend was rescued by the Coast Guard after being spotted by a member of the public.
On Saturday, the Coast Guard and RNLI Dun Laoghaire Lifeboat Station were alerted to reports of a kayaker in difficulty off Dalkey island and rushed to the scene. The kayaker was approximately half a mile from Sorrento point and was in the water for twenty minutes, unable to get back into the kayak.
The RNLI Dun Laoghaire Lifeboat Station team recovered the kayaker and brought them to Coliemore harbour. Fortunately, the kayaker was uninjured and did not require transport to hospital.

A spokesman said: "Team tasked to reports of a kayaker in difficulty off Dalkey island. RNLI Dun Laoghaire Lifeboat Station ILB tasked to scene. Arriving on scene, Dublin Coast Guard guided the RNLI Dun Laoghaire Lifeboat Station ILBto the kayakers position who was approximately 1/2 mile from Sorrento point.
"The kayaker was in the water for over 20mins and was unable to get back into the kayak. RNLI Dun Laoghaire Lifeboat Station ILB team recovered the casualty and brought them to Coliemore harbour, handing over to CG crew for further care. Coast Guard team provided additional care to the casualty, but thankfully they were ok and did not require transport to hospital. Team stood down.
"Well done to member of the public who spotted the kayaker in difficulty and immediately dialled 112/999."
Meanwhile, kayakers are also urged to make sure they have the appropriate craft for the open sea, the appropriate equipment for their kayak and clothing.
A spokesman said: "Remember if you see anyone in difficulty in or near the water, dial 112/999 or VHF channel 16 immediately and ask for the Coast Guard."
