Katy Perry wants to bring 'light and love' to King's Coronation amid family tension

Katy Perry is hoping "to bring the light and the love" when she performs at the King's Coronation next month.

The California Girls singer's comments come amid the long-running drama revolving around King Charles and his two sons, with tension between Prince William and his brother Prince Harry said to be at an all-time high ahead of their dad's big party next weekend.

Mum-of-one Katy, 38, is set to perform at Windsor Castle on Sunday, May 7 for King's Coronation, following a number of big British musicians snubbing the Royal Family and turning down a chance to sing for the King.

The King's Coronation, which is reportedly set to cost British taxpayers around £100million, will take place on Saturday, May 6, with American singer Lionel Richie and pop group Take That joining Katy at the Coronation party the following day.

Speaking ahead of the big bash, Katy - who shares a child with British actor Orlando Bloom - says she is is "so grateful" for the opportunity and the fact she has the songs to support being asked to perform at prestigious events.

Katy is an ambassador for one of the royal foundations, The British Asian Trust - something she mentions when discussing her upcoming Coronation gig with Access Hollywood.

The American Idol judge adds: "I'm also an ambassador for UNICEF, so both of those things really are my core values and as a mother, I know first hand what's most important — which are these innocent children.

"I'm going there to represent myself as an ambassador and just to bring the light and the love. That's all I ever want to bring."

Katy will be representing herself as an ambassador at the King's Coronation as Harry represents his entire family, with the Duke of Sussex riding solo at the big royal bash due to wife Meghan and their two children remaining in America.

Harry's appearance at Charles' weekend-long party will be the first time the dad-of-two has stepped out publicly with his family following his bombshell memoir being released at the start of this year.

According to People, William and Harry still have not communicated since Spare revealed a number of royal secrets in January, with an insider claiming things "are strained" between the two men and their dad's Coronation isn't likely to change things.

No exact sum has been given yet on how much the coronation will cost British taxpayer but it's been estimated at £100million.

Charles' late mother Queen Elizabeth II's Coronation in 1953 cost £1.5million which works out at around £50million today.

Katy's upcoming performance in England has divided the Roar singer's fans online.

"Katy Perry singing at the coronation is so iconic. I hope she sings California Girls," one gushed on Twitter earlier this month.

Another joked: "How am I just finding out that Katy Perry is to perform at the coronation? I hope she sings her Just Eat song. "

One unimpressed Brit quipped: "So because no popular English acts wanted to do the coronation we now have Take That, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. Doesn’t that scream British monarchy."
