Katy Perry left fans with eyebrows raised as she sang along to her hit track Firework at the King's Coronation concert.
The 38-year-old sang through a series of her biggest hits and put on an incredible performance for the 20,000 audience members and the new King and Queen.
However, some fans were confused when they realised a lyric in her song Firework had an "awkward" historical meaning that could be perceived as offensive to King Charles and the history of the monarchy.
In the song, Katy sings the line: "You just gotta ignite the light / And let it shine / Just own the night / Like the Fourth of July."
The Fourth of July is a popular holiday for Americans as it marks their independence day, which is the date that the United States gained freedom from the British back in 1776.
Fans took to Twitter to discuss the historical meaning of the lyric and whether Katy should have sang the song or not.
One person wrote: "Katy Perry singing about 4th July to the British King is surely an arrestable offence."
"Katy Perry reminding to 'own the night like the 4th of July' ... Um, is that awkward," a second put.
A third added: "Katy Perry performing Firework and singing “own the night like the Fourth of July” at the coronation of the King of England is lowkey savage."
A fourth joked: "I find it hilarious that Katy Perry sang about "the Fourth of July" at a concert celebrating the coronation of King Charles III."
Despite the slight hiccup, Katy undoubtedly stole the show at the Coronation concert, which saw the likes of Lionel Richie and Take That perform.
Before she belted Firework, Katy took a moment to personally thank King Charles for giving her the honour of performing.
"I'm so happy to be here with you people. I love you all so much. I got to bring my mum, she's so happy to be here. I get to stay in this castle!" she excitedly said.
"Thank you for having me at the Coronation celebration and I want to dedicate this song to the King and the work we get to do with the British Asian Trust."
