Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano rematch: Eddie Hearn wants Dublin homecoming for champion at Croke Park

Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano look set for a blockbuster rematch later in 2022, with Eddie Hearn keen to stage the contest at Dublin’s Croke Park.

Taylor claimed a contentious split-decision win in their first meeting on a historic night for women’s boxing at Madison Square Garden in New York, successfully retaining her undisputed lightweight championship of the world after showing huge resolve to bounce back from the verge of being stopped in the middle rounds.

The close nature of the result - Serrano’s promoter Jake Paul felt his fighter was ‘robbed’ - means a rematch seems highly likely, with all parties appearing open to the possibility after Saturday night’s main event.

Paul seemed excited by Hearn’s suggestion that the second bout take place in Ireland as a homecoming for Taylor, who will go down as one of the nation’s very finest and most inspirational sporting heroes.

Hearn namechecked Croke Park rather than the Aviva Stadium as a potential venue for that fight, with the 82,300-capacity ground usually playing host to Gaelic games.

Taylor has never fought in her native Ireland as a professional, instead competing in America, England and Wales across her 21 contests.

Croke Park, the third-largest stadium in Europe that was revamped and redeveloped between 1991-2005, famously staged boxing in 1972 when the iconic Muhammad Ali defeated Alvin “Blue” Lewis.
