Katie Taylor appears to be back in Ireland after plans to fight Amanda Serrano in Croke Park this autumn fell through.
The Irish lightweight champion shared photos on her Instagram story of her smiling beside her grandmother and other relatives over the weekend.
The 35-year-old was in talks to defend her titles against high profile fighter Amanda Serrano, but was dealt a blow after promoters officially confirmed that the rematch was off.
“They don’t want that fight unfortunately. They don’t want to go to Ireland, they don’t really want a rematch this year,” the Bray native’s promoter Eddie Hearn revealed.
Serrano and Taylor previously faced off in Madison Square Garden this April in a match coined as the biggest fight in women’s boxing history.
Taylor retained her title as undisputed lightweight champion but expressed interest in having a rematch on her home soil later on in 2022.
Hearn believes Serrano is reluctant to fight Taylor again as a second consecutive loss could spell disaster for the Puerto Rican champion.
Taylor also beat Serrano’s sister in a previous fight in 2018.
Taylor’s return to Ireland appears days after she posted a tribute on Instagram to her mother.
“It is hard to quantify just how much influence our loved ones have in our success, but I have a feeling it’s more than we realise,” she wrote in her post.
The 35-year-old currently lives in a secluded home in Vernon, Connecticut, about 150 km away from Boston. She previously has said that she loves living a quiet life in rural America, with the hilly surroundings being ideal for her to train in.
She often shares footage of herself training in an unknown gym in America to her Instagram platform.
