Former opponent of Katie Taylor, Viviane Obenauf has been handed a 16-year prison sentence for killing her husband.
The former boxer was arrested in December 2020, two months after her husband had been killed.
Police say that her 61-year-old husband, who was only ever named as 'Thomas' in court due to Swiss protection laws, was hit 19 times in the head with a baseball bat before succumbing to his injuries.
Obenauf stood trial for the killing two years ago and has finally been sentenced today.
She plead not guilty at the time.
Obenauf is known to Irish boxing fans as being one of the first opponents of Katie Taylor after the Bray star turned professional. The pair clashed in Manchester back in 2016, with Taylor winning a unanimous decision. Taylor moved to 2-0 with that win.
Obenauf was a successful fighter in her own right and fought for three World titles during her career. The 36-year-old retired from the sport in 2019.
