Katie Taylor has revealed the special meaning behind her entrance for her legendary fight with Amanda Serrano.
Taylor defeated Serrano in an epic battle in front of over 19,000 people. However, one of the most abiding visuals of the night was when Katie made her way to the ring.
In almost all of her other fights, Taylor allows her family or management team to select the song which she will walk out to. However, on this historic occasion, Taylor chose a song that has a special place in her heart.
"I actually picked a worship song," Katie revealed in an interview with Eddie Hearn.
"I am a woman of faith and I just wanted to walk into the ring worshipping, but the atmosphere – the Irish people there, the Puerto Ricans – I just soaked up the atmosphere as I was walking out and it was just incredible.
"The minute I walked into the arena, there was something very, very special about it, and I just wanted to soak the atmosphere up.
"And as I was walking to the ring, I was just worshipping, as well. An amazing moment."
Taylor made her entrance to the song ‘Awake My Soul’ by Hillsong Worship and Tasha Cobbs Leonard. As she slowly made her way to the ring, it was clear for everyone to see that the Irish superstar was soaking in every moment.
Prior to the Serrano fight, Taylor's recent performances had many believing that the Irish superstar had lost a step. However, it has since come to light that Taylor had a persistent calf injury and in the interview with Hearn, Taylor spoke of how, for the first time in a while, she was 100% fit heading into a fight.
"I think for this fight, I was actually going into the fight injury free for the first time in a long time.
"People have no idea, the last couple of fights before Serrano, the injuries and niggles that I was actually carrying going into those fights.
"That was affecting my training, obviously affecting my performances, as well, but this is the healthiest I have been in a long long time and that showed in the shape I was in."
Taylor's epic war with Serrano resulted in a razor thin, but fully deserved, decision win for 'The Bray Bomber.' The result led to immediate calls for a rematch, with positive news emerging this week that Croke Park is the frontrunner to host Taylor v Serrano II.
