Katie Taylor ready to wage war on Chantelle Cameron in homecoming special

Eddie Hearn says Katie Taylor's camp are worried that she wants to go to war at the 3 Arena on Saturday.

The Matchroom promoter says the feeling is that Taylor is pumped up and ready to go toe to toe with Chantelle Cameron at the 3 Arena.

Hearn admits he was "really surprised" that Taylor, 37, agreed to take on the unbeaten world champ Cameron for her homecoming when Amanda Serrano pulled out.

"But that's what it meant to her in terms of fighting here," said Hearn. "I think she felt that 'if I don't do this now, I don't want to rely on Serrano'.

"Honestly, Chantelle Cameron is probably the one fight, maybe a year ago, that I thought, 'I think this is the toughest fight out there for her'.

"And when you're in Katie's position you just don't fight really tough fights that may not have the value that the toughness of that fight deserves.

"But Ross (Enamait, Taylor's coach) and Katie had absolutely no fear of this fight whatsoever, so they called it on and it got made.

"This is absolute prime Chantelle Cameron. The prime of her career.

"The argument for Katie is, is it her prime? Or is it slightly past her prime? I think this is her prime.

"These are the kind of fights (that inspire her). I spoke to her manager Brian Peters this morning and he's saying, 'She's up for it.'

"They're a bit worried that she's up for it to the point where she just wants a war. And she'll be told what to do and take her instructions into the fight.

"But Brian is a bit worried that all hell will break loose in the ring and I think that's just the way she fights."

Hearn claims that Taylor at Croke Park can still happen, even as soon as the end of September, although Serrano is fighting at the start of the month.

"But listen, Katie has to get through Saturday first," he said. "I mean, it could be a Chantelle Cameron rematch.

"For Chantelle to win would be one of the greatest victories for a British fighter. To go away from home and beat the greatest of all time - in my opinion - in her backyard, would be unbelievable.

"And for Katie to become a two-weight undisputed world champion in Dublin would be too. So, that's more how I win either way.

"If Chantelle wins, there's a massive rematch. If Katie wins, she fights Serrano. So there's a massive fight either way. The rewards for a win either way are massive."

Hearn is in a weird position in that he promotes both boxers. He recalls that he couldn't celebrate when Tommy Coyle against (Sean) 'Masher' Dodd fought in Liverpool and Coyle knocked out his rival - Hearn promoted both men.

Hearn smiled: "And Tommy messaged me the week after, 'I just watched it back. When I knocked him out, you didn't even jump up and celebrate!' And I said, 'Well, I've got Masher as well!'

"What you won't see from me is me jumping up and down, screaming and shouting and jumping in the ring. I've got a very close relationship with Katie, I've a lot of respect for Chantelle.

"I think Chantelle's always had a bit of a chip on her shoulder, in a good way for her. Like, 'They're not pushing me enough, it's all about Katie Taylor, I'm never going to get my chance'.

"And I said to her, 'I promise you, she will give you the fight when it's big enough'. I think she was a bit shocked that she got it but we delivered for her and on the night, let them go.

"She's called for it for so long. When Serrano pulled out, it was really like, 'I'll take the fight.' And from there it was just money. And she's getting paid a lot of money. But she knew, 'I'm not gonna outprice myself, I know my number. Let's go'. It was not even 24 hours.

"She's won a world title, she's unified it, she's become undisputed, and now she's fighting Katie Taylor. But she's well prepared.

"Somehow, we'll fall out with someone."
