Katie Taylor pays surprise visit to US Embassy to inspire next generation

Katie Taylor kindly surprised students at the US Embassy this afternoon as she shared some invaluable advice about achieving your goals in life.

As you can imagine, the room full of teens were all ears while listening to the Irish icon who is now a global sporting star for all that she has achieved in the pro ranks as well as her dominant career as an amateur.

Representatives of the embassy paid tribute to the Bray native afterwards in a glowing social media post.

It read: "World champion and Olympic Gold Medalist @katie_t86 surprised students from around Ireland today at the US Ambassador’s Residence.

"She brought her Olympic gold medal and belts, and sat down with Ambassador Cronin to share stories of her success."

Earlier in the day Katie had shared some lovely family photos as she has enjoyed reconnecting with loved ones since arriving back home.

Her return to Ireland comes days after she posted a tribute on Instagram to her mother.

“It is hard to quantify just how much influence our loved ones have in our success, but I have a feeling it’s more than we realise,” she wrote in her post.

The 35-year-old currently lives in a secluded home in Vernon, Connecticut, about 150 km away from Boston. She previously has said that she loves living a quiet life in rural America, with the hilly surroundings being ideal for her to train in.

She often shares footage of herself training in an unknown gym in America to her Instagram platform.

It's pretty unclear at this point who her next opponent will be after a proposed rematch with Amanda Serrano fell through.

Katie was in talks to defend her titles against her high-profile rival but was dealt a blow after promoters officially confirmed that the rematch was off.

“They don’t want that fight unfortunately. They don’t want to go to Ireland, they don’t really want a rematch this year,” promoter Eddie Hearn revealed.

The Matchroom chief believes the 33-year-old is reluctant to fight Taylor again as a second consecutive loss could spell disaster for her career prospects as she also seeks to maximise her earnings as she enters the winter of her ring days.
