Katie Taylor next fight update as Amanda Serrano accused of not chasing rematch

Katie Taylor is likely to fight again in October, according to her promoter Eddie Hearn.

An opponent has yet to be named for the undisputed lightweight champion, who hasn't fought since beating Amanda Serrano in a fight of the year contender at Madison Square Garden almost three months ago, but it is understood that MMA fighters Holly Holm and Cris Cyborg are both towards the top of the shortlist.

Matchroom boss Hearn claims Serrano is not "actively seeking" a rematch with Taylor, with the Puerto Rican going back to featherweight to defend her WBO, WBC and IBO titles against Argentina’s Brenda Carbajal on the undercard of her promoter Jake Paul's fight with Hasim Rahman Jr on August 6.

“It’s the biggest fight in women’s boxing,” Hearn said on The DAZN Boxing Show. “But no disrespect to Amanda Serrano, she should be actively seeking that rematch. Like if you lose a split, in one of the greatest fights of all time, you’d like to think that you’d chase the rematch. But she’s not really chasing the rematch.

“But look, let her do her thing on August sixth. Katie will have another fight, probably in October, and hopefully [they fight again].”

Hearn's comments come as Serrano claimed that she is open to fighting Taylor on Irish soil.

She told BoxingScene.com: “I would go to Ireland. It doesn’t matter where they wanna fight. But right now, I just need to defend my titles.”

The seven-weight world champion was also critical of the two judges that scored the Madison Square Garden fight in Taylor's favour to give the Bray Bomber a split decision win.

She added: “I scored it 96-94. I think I was more aggressive. I kept coming forward.

"In that fight, Katie Taylor never hurt me. There was a couple times I hurt Katie Taylor.

"But, you know, it’s not Katie Taylor’s fault. It’s the judges. They felt that she won. Two out of the three judges thought that she won.

"But, you know, it’s not losing, it’s learning. After my first loss, I came back and I won [nine straight] fights by knockout. So, I’m assuming you can’t leave it to the judges.”
