Katie Taylor gives update on next fight and admits Croke Park bout 'one of the final boxes to tick'

Katie Taylor expects to fight again before the end of the year - but is still unsure against who.

The undisputed lightweight champion had hoped to face Amanda Serrano at Croke Park this autumn, but it became clear quite quickly after their historic Madison Square Garden bout that a rematch would not go ahead this year.

Serrano's scheduled bout with Brenda Karen Carabajal was cancelled earlier this month after Jake Paul's fight with Hasim Rahman Jr, which was to headline the card, fell through over a dispute over the weight limit.

But Taylor doesn't think that cancellation will delay a rematch with Serrano even further.

She told Matchroom Boxing’s 'Flash Knockdown' podcast: "I was obviously hoping for a rematch with Amanda straight after the last fight but obviously that wasn't going to happen.

"I don't think the fight is going to happen until next year anyway so I don't think it will delay things anymore."

Cris Cyborg has been one of the names linked with fighting Taylor later in 2022, with the MMA superstar set to make her boxing debut against Simone Silva, who previously fought Serrano, next month in her native Brazil.

On the possibility of fighting Cyborg, Taylor said: "I think they [Taylor's team] were talking to the likes of Cris Cyborg.

"I obviously just want to be involved in big fights. I'm not sure who I'll fight next right now. I think my team are still kind of talking about those things but I'm planning to be out by the end of the year, probably November/December sometime.

"I'm just itching to get back in the ring. I think I only had two or three days off after the Amanda Serrano fight until I was back in the gym. I'm just itching to go at this stage."

Croke Park looked like the likely venue to stage a rematch between Taylor and Serrano had it gone ahead this autumn and the Bray Bomber admits fighting at the Dublin venue is one of the few things left for her to do in her career.

She added: "That would be an absolute dream. It's a shame really that I've had 21 fights in my career and I've never actually fought in Ireland (as a professional).

"That would be absolutely huge to be boxing at Croke Park - the biggest arena in Ireland - 80,000 Irish people in the stadium. That would be a dream for me."
