'Katie Price’s Mucky Mansion is a cheap and cheerful celeb version of Grand Designs'

With all the genuinely shocking things going on in the world right now, I was somewhat surprised by the righteous anger directed at Channel 4 on Wednesday.

Viewers of a delicate nature were evidently outraged by Channel 4 ’s decision to give airtime to convicted drink driver Katie Price.

I haven’t checked whether the same people have ever tweeted about how much they are looking forward to the next episode of Ant & Dec’s Limitless Win, but if any of you happen to be writing a paper on double standards in modern-day social media you might want to take a quick look.

To be fair, editorially-speaking it was perhaps remiss of those behind Katie Price’s Mucky Mansion to not give viewers a full rundown of the current state of play in Price World.

However, as this is a three-part series, her pressing off-screen issues may well be addressed later.

There was also a small chance that, given the volatile nature of their subject’s personal and financial affairs, they simply decided it was best to focus on the job in hand.

Namely? Making a cheap and (fairly) cheerful celebrity version of Grand Designs meets Changing Rooms meets Kirstie’s Homemade Home.

On that score, this makeover show about her 19-room Sussex mansion was a job well done.

Like Katie in a plastic surgeon’s pre-op suite, I can’t wait to see what the rebuild will look like when it’s all finished.

Whatever your thoughts on Katie Price as a person, she is never less than engaging on screen.

In terms of a televisual transformation, it also helped that her mansion was an absolute bombsite.

She’d left it to wrack and ruin in 2019, whereupon it was ransacked by burglars, who even stole the massive island from the kitchen.

I know, right.

Imagine the thief trying to fit that under their overcoat down the pub car park.
