Katie McGlynn says goodbye to Hollyoaks after less than a year on Channel 4 soap

Katie McGlynn has left her role on Hollyoaks after just nine months after joining the Channel 4 soap.

The actress - who played Sinead Tinker on Coronation Street for several years - made her exit during Tuesday night's episode after less than a year playing Becky Quentin.

During her time on the show, Becky was involved in some huge storylines which centred around her belief in conspiracy theories including those surrounding 5G and the Covid-19 pandemic.

After her departure was played out on screen, Katie took to social media to pay tribute to the cast and crew.

"Becky Quentin, over and out! @HollyoaksOfficial. It’s been an absolute pleasure playing Becky and getting my teeth into something so different and gritty!" she wrote in a lengthy Instagram post.

"As an actor, to be able to portray someone that has so much likeness to extremely current global issues from conspiracy theories to anti-vaxxers, coronavirus and sinophobia… I really hope the storyline has helped raise some important issues and helps people see how easy it is for someone to be sucked into this whole world of fake news and conspiracy!"

Fans hope this means Katie will return to Waterloo Road (Shed Media)

Katie teased there were "other exciting opportunities" ahead for her.

She added: "Thank you to the entire cast and crew for being so unbelievably amazing and welcoming me with open arms! I will miss you all, but other exciting opportunities beckon. #hollyoaks."

And some fans are hopeful this might mean she will be making a return to Waterloo Road.

"Bring back scout ! WR reunion come back as a teacher," one wrote in the comments section, as another added: "You going back to Waterloo road????? Dying to know xxx."

Other fans praised her acting skills and said they'd miss seeing her on their screens - for now.

"I'm so proud of you !!!You played Becky so well and can’t wait to see what you next, you're amazing," one of her followers wrote, whilst a second added: "Well done Katie. So inspiring as always in your acting."

A third shared: "It says a lot about your versatility when the nation absolutely fell in love with Sinead and then absolutely despised Becky. Not many current actors deliver that so I await whatever your next role is with baited breath, I’m sure you’ll smash that too."
