Katie McGlynn denies she was fired from Hollyoaks but would have 'loved to stay'

Katie McGlynn has denied she was fired from Hollyoaks after she announced earlier this week that she was leaving the Channel 4 soap.

The 28-year-old actress has been playing the role of Becky Quentin since last year and many of her fans were sad to see her go.

Posting a picture of herself on set, Katie wrote on February 15: "Becky Quentin, over and out! @Hollyoaks it’s been an absolute pleasure getting my teeth into something so different and gritty!

"As an actor it’s been brilliant to portray extremely current global issues from conspiracy theories to anti-vaxxers, coronavirus and sinophobia.

"I really hope the storyline has helped raise some important issues and helps viewers see how easy it is for someone to be sucked into this whole world of fake news and conspiracy!" she continued.

"And thank you to the entire cast and crew for being so unbelievably amazing and welcoming me with open arms! I will miss you all, but other exciting opportunities beckon…"

However, just a day later Katie took to Twitter to clear a few things up regarding her exit from Hollyoaks.

"Thanks for the lovely messages & support! I just wanted to clear up I was only ever meant to be @Hollyoaks in a guest role for 9 months… I didn’t quit, we just reached the end of the storyline for Becky!" she tweeted.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star then added: "Although I would have loved to stay, I’m excited for what comes next."

Katie's followers were quick to reply to the tweet, with one person commenting: "Love you lots looking forward to seeing what is next for you hun xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx."

Another person wrote: "Been great in hollyoaks as you were in corrie, and a third added: "Loved your character in Hollyoaks, I think she could have lasted a lot longer though. Good luck with whatever you do next!"
