Ireland captain Katie McCabe could learn the nature and extent of her injury as early as Friday morning.
The Dubliner has given Ireland boss Vera Pauw - who is in Dublin to name her squad for the friendly double-header away to the USA - a huge World Cup scare.
She had to be carried off late in Arsenal’s Champions League quarter-final win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday night after picking up a nasty looking foot injury.
McCabe fell to the turf immediately, clutching her left boot, after connecting with the studs of an opponent as she cleared the ball.
The 27-year-old was spotted afterwards on crutches and in a protective boot.
The results of a scan carried out yesterday are expected today - with both the Ireland and Arsenal camp hoping to rule out a metatarsal break.
