Katie Allan's mum pays tribute to daughter before hearing into Polmont death

The mum of a young Scots woman who took her own life at a Young Offenders Institution has paid tribute to her daughter ahead of hearing into her death.

Katie Allan, from Giffnock, died by suicide while serving a 16-month sentence for a drink driving offence which left a teenage boy injured.

It’s claimed that the 21-year-old first offender was being bullied at His Majesty's Young Offenders Institution Polmont, near Falkirk. She passed away in June 2018.

Just hours before a Fatal Accident Inquiry hearing today, mum Linda Allan posted a message on social media.

She said: “As we attend court today we take you with us in our hearts and by our sides, as we do all young people who have died in Scottish Prisons.”

The hearing will also look into the death of William Lindsay who also took his own life just 16 days after being remanded at Polmont in October 2018.

His family have been campaigning for answers as to why he was able to take his own life despite being flagged as a suicide risk.

Both families are being represented by solicitor Aamer Anwar at the preliminary hearing on Tuesday at Falkirk Sheriff Court.
