Kathy Griffin, the 63-year-old comedian, continues to prioritize her health as she recently underwent vocal cord surgery to address complications stemming from her battle with lung cancer. Griffin, who has been candid about her health struggles, shared details of her surgery on Instagram.
During the surgery, an implant was placed in her left vocal cord, which had been left permanently paralyzed following her lung cancer operation that involved the removal of half of her left lung. Additionally, Griffin disclosed that she had an aperture, a tear above her vocal cords, which contributed to fluctuations in her voice pitch during stand-up performances.
Despite having undergone multiple surgeries in the past, Griffin expressed some nervousness about this particular procedure due to its impact on her voice. She mentioned that she would be unable to speak for a couple of weeks post-surgery, a prospect that she acknowledged would be challenging.
Following the surgery, Griffin provided an update on her condition, sharing a photo on Instagram showing scarring and swelling around her throat. She remained optimistic, stating that the surgery would be worthwhile if it helped restore some of her voice.

The comedian first revealed her lung cancer diagnosis in 2021, highlighting the difficulties she faced, including shortness of breath, coughing, pain, fatigue, and vocal cord issues.
Griffin's journey with cancer led to the removal of part of her left lung, which subsequently resulted in vocal cord complications. In May 2023, she underwent a previous operation on her left vocal cord in an effort to address these issues.
