Katherine Ryan has hit out at Jennifer Lopez for her decision to take her husband Ben Affleck 's surname, saying it "makes very little sense".
Jennifer, 52, and Ben, 49, tied the knot in Las Vegas over the weekend, just three months after becoming engaged again.
Documents from Clark County Recorder's Office showed J-Lo signed her marriage licence using the surname Affleck.
Katherine, 39, took to Twitter on Wednesday to share her disappointment in Jennifer for changing her legal name after enjoying a successful career under her maiden name.
The comedian said: "Changing your name makes very little sense to me, but makes ZERO SENSE AT ALL when your name is Jennifer Lopez and you are J-Lo, Jenny from the Block, and you rode the 6 day and night to grow that name but ok, Jen Affleck…"
Her opinion divided fans, with some insisting it's Jennifer's choice while others suggested Ben should taken the surname Lopez.
One person said: "JLo is her brand and she’ll always be JLo. She simply changed her legal / personal name which most ppl do when they get married. It’s her prerogative either way and nothing to be pressed about."
Another said: "Bad form!! Some woman want to change their name when they marry... being made to feel bad because they've made that choice makes no sense!"
A third tweeted: "Telling another women what she should choose to do makes very little sense to me."
But some people were on Katherine's side, with one person writing: "Why the f**k isn't he changing his name to Ben Lopez??"
Another joked: "He should've taken her name and become B-Lo instead."
One fan said: "I so agree, Jen please don't change your name," while a forth tweeted: "The name doesn’t feel right."
Ben and Jennifer rekindled their relationship in July. The couple originally planned to wed in September 2003, but postponed the ceremony just four days before it was about to take place.
They then ended their engagement and split by January 2004.
On her newsletter, On The JLo, Jennifer shared details of their wedding and said: "Love is a great thing, maybe the best of things - and worth waiting for. "
She signed off: "With love, Mrs. Jennifer Lynn Affleck."
